Like many seedstock operations, Warner Beef Genetics got its start with a commercial cow-calf herd, but with time, the operation evolved and the Warner’s added a seedstock herd in the early ‘90s. Today, Warner Beef runs 1,500 head of commercial and registered cows. The ranch is located outside of Arapahoe, NE and is family owned and operated by Dan and Kate Warner, Monte and Kristie Warner, and Darren and Amy Warner.
For years, the Warner family has focused on Balancer cattle, resulting in a composite cowherd that produces consistency and uniformity. According to Dan Warner, their cows aren’t just crossbred cattle, they’re more moderate than traditional purebred Gelbviehs, more angular.
“Raising quality cattle is a way of life for us,” says Dan Warner. “We have a passion for the genetics and the people in the business. I’ve always said the cattle industry, especially the seedstock business, is a people business and the cattle are a byproduct. Our family really works to focus on that.”
Besides their spring bull sale where they annually sell approximately 150 bulls, the Warner’s also host an annual registered female sale. This year the sale will be hosted on November 18. They also take part in the annual Maternal Merit Sale, which is set to take place on November 29.
Through the years, Warner Beef Genetics have developed a cowherd built on consistency and uniformity.
The Maternal Merit Sale
The Maternal Merit Sale is known for selling quality bred heifers that cater to commercial cattlemen. The sale offers a wide variety of breeds including Red Angus, Angus, F1 baldies, and Sim-Angus. These high-quality females are AI bred to ABS bulls, which offers name recognition to buyers at the sale, and to feeder cattle buyers down the line.
According to Anton Hermes, ABS Representative for Southeast Colorado, the goal of the Maternal Merit Sale is to offer a variety of bred, proven females to commercial cattlemen, something you won’t find at every bred heifer sale. “In addition to variety, this sale also offers a ton of maternal power built upon years and years of reputable programs.”
The 2nd anual Maternal Merit Sale caters to commercial cattlemen with a wide variety of high-quality heifers bred to ABS sires.
This year’s sale will feature 650 females sold in groups of five to ten head, all the way up to pot-loads. The heifers will be ultra-sounded and have guaranteed targeted calving dates.
